Event Summary.

About the evening

With the fictional character of “Bruno – Chef de Police”, the Scot Martin Walker gave the Périgord a literary face - the landscape in deep France that is known for its idyllic river valleys, quiet villages, feudal castles and palaces and prehistoric caves. But this idyll is constantly disturbed. Bruno, the village policeman of Saint-Denis, is drawn into criminal cases that extend far beyond his provincial homeland, but which he nevertheless solves thanks to his instincts and his peasant cunning. In his latest case, he finds himself in the middle of the conflict over Catalonia's independence. Martin Walker's books are a declaration of love for his adopted home of Périgord and its wine-loving people, who are not averse to culinary or other pleasures. He would like to let his readers and listeners participate in it - literary.

Martin Walker, born in Scotland in 1947, began his career very seriously: after studying at Oxford and Harvard, he worked for 25 years as an editor for the British daily newspaper 'The Guardian', publishing political non-fiction books, including about Russia and the USA. In 1999 he moved to the Périgord, and in 2008 his first crime novel, 'Bruno, Chef de police', was published. Since then he has published 14 more volumes in this series, which, translated into 18 languages, became a global success. The 15th case will appear in April 2023. Martin Walker speaks excellent German.
